Hello, I’m Sequoyah

For over thirty years, healing has been my life’s work and my life’s teacher. Every step of the journey has shaped how I hold space for yours.

My Purpose

My life’s work is dedicated to guiding others in awakening to their deepest truth, reclaiming their inner power, and finding the freedom to live authentically. I am here to witness and hold space for you on this transformative journey of self-discovery, supporting you as you align with your true self.

Together, we will dive deeply into your inner world, uncovering the innate wisdom that lies within. So much of what we carry was never a flaw to be fixed. It was a pattern shaped by experience, formed in the body long before words could name it. As we listen to those patterns with curiosity and compassion, the body begins to soften its old protections, and what felt stuck begins to move once more.

My role is to support you in cultivating strength, vitality, and alignment, helping you to fully embody your birthright, a life marked by well-being, resilience, and balance. This is not a process of becoming someone new. It is a remembering of who you have always been beneath the layers of adaptation. Through our collaborative work, you will develop the clarity and empowerment needed to reach your highest potential, living in a state of harmony and authenticity.

My practice is rooted in a deep understanding of the body, mind, and spirit, and I am here to walk beside you, offering guidance, compassion, and powerful tools to help you reclaim your wellness and thrive. Together, we will uncover the layers of your being, allowing you to step into the most authentic and vibrant version of yourself.

I have been in private practice for 20 years on Vancouver Island BC

More About Sequoyah

I do this work because I have lived it. After many years of walking this path myself, I know that healing trauma is possible. This is more than a hopeful idea for me. It is something I have experienced in my own body and witnessed countless times in the people I have the honour of working with. I also know that our life's journey is one we must learn to trust, even when we cannot yet see where it is leading. I continue to do my own inner work to this day, and I would never ask a client to go somewhere I have not been willing to go myself.

My journey has been one of deep exploration and curiosity, a continual seeking to understand the body, mind, and spirit in their fullness. From an early age, I was captivated by the mystery of being in a body. What does it hold? What does it remember? What does it know that the mind has forgotten? That wonder set me on a lifelong path of self-discovery and healing. I have always thought of myself as an explorer and adventurer, in the physical world and in the inner landscapes of healing, alignment, and emotional understanding.

As a teenager, I began noticing the connection between body alignment and emotional life. That curiosity led me to Iyengar yoga and African dance, practices I have cherished for more than thirty years. Both have enriched my life through the wisdom of embodiment and rhythm, teaching me to understand my own body while connecting me to the movement and healing traditions of other cultures.

Wanting to learn more about diverse approaches to healing, I pursued a degree in Cultural Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a focus on Medical Anthropology. There I explored the intersection of culture, belief, and healing, and I designed a program that allowed me to travel to Zimbabwe to study traditional music, dance, and healing. Zimbabwe changed me. Learning music and dance that carry a community's grief and joy taught me that healing does not belong to the clinic alone. It lives in rhythm, in relationship, and in belonging. My time there transformed my understanding of what healing can be and deepened my appreciation for resilience, community, and the wisdom held within cultural traditions. After graduating in 1999, I trained at Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts, immersing myself in Shiatsu, Chi Gong, Craniosacral Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Acupressure, and Lymphatic Drainage. This training broadened my skills, though my heart kept calling me back to Zimbabwe to deepen my study of its music, dance, and healing traditions.

In 2002, I became a mother for the first time and began teaching and performing Zimbabwean music and dance while continuing to offer massage and healing work. Five years later, raising my son as a single mother, I felt drawn to study Hellerwork Structural Integration. This work changed me from the inside out. It shifted my body and my spirit, and it opened a deeper understanding of the nervous system and the generational patterns that had been shaping my life without my knowing. For the first time, I could see that the struggles I had carried were not personal failings. They were the intelligent responses of a body doing its best to protect me. Learning to meet them with compassion changed everything, and that same understanding is at the heart of what I now offer my clients.

That awakening sparked a passion to understand trauma more fully, which led me to Dr. Sharon Stanley's two-year Somatic Transformation program, a pivotal turning point that taught me to integrate body, mind, and spirit in new ways. Out of this work, I went on to become a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, allowing me to support clients in both the somatic and emotional dimensions of their healing. Over the years I have invested thousands of hours in continuing education, deepening my knowledge in Advanced Rolfing, Advanced Hellerwork, Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Meditation, Breathwork, and Functional Medicine. These practices allow me to work holistically and to address the root causes of imbalance rather than only its symptoms. Today I bring these threads together through Integrative Somatic Therapies, a body-centred approach that meets each person as a whole being.

In 2014, my second son was born, and shortly after he developed PANS, an autoimmune condition that challenged me in ways I could not have imagined. Watching my child suffer, and refusing to accept that nothing could be done, drew me deep into Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine, where I focused on the gut-brain connection, immune dysfunction, and detoxification. His recovery remains one of the great teachers of my life. It strengthened my resolve, expanded my empathy and compassion, and deepened my commitment to helping others uncover the root causes of their suffering rather than settling for managing it.

In 2015, I began training to become a Hellerwork Trainer, and since 2023 I have been honoured to serve as one of the Lead Trainers of Hellerwork Structural Integration. Teaching this work has become one of my greatest joys, alongside developing online courses that make these healing modalities more accessible to all.

In 2024, I proudly earned my Master's Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy from Vancouver Island University. My relationship with these medicines began in my early years, and it is a deep honour to now incorporate them into my practice. These profound tools open access to deeper layers of consciousness, offering a unique path toward emotional and psychological healing. I feel grateful to hold space for such powerful work, helping people explore and integrate these experiences on their journey toward wholeness.

Beyond my professional work, I am a devoted spiritual seeker, a nature lover, and a lifelong student of the mysteries of life. My family, which includes my two boys, my partner, three cats, a dog, and our chickens, lives on the unceded traditional territory of the Quw'utsun Peoples on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where I maintain a thriving private practice.

If you are reading this and wondering whether real change is possible for you, I want you to know that it is. I have lived it, and I have witnessed it more times than I can count. Your journey is your own, and you do not have to walk it alone
